How We Stay Plugged Into Our Business From the Campsite

As was sitting here in our minivan at our campsite, kids asleep in the tent right in front of us, I had a realization that given the right combination of opportunity and technology, there are no limits to what can be accomplished.

Here’s an illustration of what I mean:

Our network marketing organization runs a team call every Monday night. A few years ago we switched over to Zoom as our preferred platform. So despite the fact we weren’t at home and don’t have WiFi, we are still able to be connected to our business from a campsite.

The cellphone was mounted in the cradle attached to the windshield. The Zoom app was running on cellular data, and we were as plugged into our business as we would have been at home or in an office.

This post may sound like an advertisement for Zoom, and maybe it is, but they’re not paying me for the plug. It’s just what we do.

The seatbelt I was still wearing, having just come from a quick trip to help the little man go to sleep, was the only giveaway that I wasn’t sitting in my home office.

More than one participant on the call noticed the seatbelt on the video feed, but our unpredictability and constant motion have become our trademark and our colleagues have come to expect these slight oddities.

And it’s more than just conference calls. We spent today on the phone with our team across the province setting goals and determining strategy.

Tomorrow’s agenda is contacting prospects and inviting them out to an event we’re attending on Wednesday. All of these calls are made from a lakeside picnic table.

By leveraging the available technology like ever-expanding cellular coverage and speed, mobile web conferencing apps like Zoom (or any other app you choose) and combining it with a unique business opportunity that matches our passion, goals, and lifestyle, we run our business from wherever we happen to be.

Personally, I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to fully realize the amount of freedom our network marketing business has provided.

We still choose our locations with some care, but all we need to grow our business is a mobile device and an internet connection.

With the proliferation of WiFi at campsites, parks and public spaces, the chances of us ending up in a location with no connection to the Internet are quite slim.

We can travel where we want and enjoy a full-time camping experience while still staying plugged into our growing business.
